Family Rules

We have officially entered the parenting phase.....no longer are we "just" changing diapers, tickling tummies, wiping boogies, giving baths, and making bottles .....we are disciplining! We knew this day would come....so why didn't we make rules then? It's not like this was any surprise that our kids would one day tell us "NO!" or smack each other upside the head. But here we are adding to our family rules one day at a time.

I like to think of our rules as expectations not limitations. For example: we expect our children to be kind, and loving because thats how Christ calls us to live. We can giggle until we are blue in the face....but if the reason your sister is blue in the face is because you are sitting on her head and won't get off....or because you wrote all over her face with a blue marker.....something should be done to stop this!

I love this sign from Barn Owl Primitives (side note: I want everything in their Etsy shop for Christmas!) and have entered a contest to win our family rules sign via Little Miss Momma, so excited!

I want my kids to know how much they were loved based on how we teach them and grow them up in the Lord. We have learned that living this way brings so much more peace and joy into our home and our daily lives. And who doesn't enjoy a peaceful two year old?!

What are some of your family rules?!

  1. Our main ones are:
Obedience is doing it the first time.
Obedience is when no one is looking.
If you don't have time to do it right you sure don't have time to do it twice.
And finally a question: "Is it what I mean by clean?"

Great blog, girl! I always enjoy reading what you write.

  2. Hudson was a very good sharer yesterday at church! He brought his motorcycle and someone else took it and he just shrugged it off and said I'll share it with him :) I thought that was so sweet.
